Pittsburgh’s Famous Cole Slaw

Pittsburgh is famous for a few foods, but more is no Pittsburgh food is more famous than Pittsburgh Coleslaw. This coleslaw is unique because it is vinegar and oil based rather than mayonnaise-based. Who wants to serve mayo in the heat? Nobody, really. Pittsburgh coleslaw is also called Prim anti Bros cole slaw, taking the name after the restaurant that put this slaw on the map.

It’s great as a side dish. However, I like to slice up a grilled chicken breast and turn it into a main course salad. The tangy bite of vinegar takes chicken from ho-hum to yum-yum.

Southwestern Bean Salad

There’s nothing easier than making this savory Southwestern Bean Salad. Open up some cans, soak the beans while you whisk up the dressing, and you have a hearty, protein-filled salad in just a few moments.

It’s satisfying enough on its own. In fact, it’s the perfect way to serve up a meal to that vegetarian friend who you don’t want to leave out!But if you must have a meat with it, serve it along with a freshly grilled…well, anything. It really is just that delish!

Cucumber-Melon Salad

Cucumbers and melons go together in a way that’s delightfully light without being too sweet. What kind of melons you ask? It doesn’t matter, whichever variety is in season pairs with the cucumbers. Chop the ingredients and toss them in a large bowl. Drizzle the cucumber-melon mixture with a touch of balsamic vinegar and a tiny hit of olive oil, sprinkle them with a touch of salt, and you have an amazing feast. The drizzle of balsamic vinegar adds a pleasant acidity that will leave you wanting more! You can serve this with freshly sliced Italian bread for a little something extra.
