- Buy the Right Tools for the Job
You wouldn’t expect to build a fence without a hammer, so you shouldn’t expect to cook without the right pots and pans, either. Having top-notch kitchen materials can make all of the difference in the quality of your food. For example, if you’re cutting with a cheap knife, you might not slice your veggies neatly or thinly enough to crisp them. If you’re making a casserole in a cheap tray, you could lose the bottom half when it gets burned and stuck.

Does your grandmother make a dish that you’ve always wanted to try? Are you addicted to a cooking show with meals that you’d love to emulate? Throw on your apron and get to work. Inspiration can come in many forms, and the great thing about cooking is that plagiarism doesn’t exist. Recipes are meant to be copied, shared and tinkered with, so feel free to re-create any dish that strikes your fancy. The “Chopped” police won’t break down your door because you took inspiration from an episode.
Last but certainly not least, don’t be afraid to experiment in the kitchen. You never know when you’ll stumble on your new favorite recipe! Try to make exotic dishes from Japan and Ethiopia. Buy some new ingredients from spice companies in Florida or BBQ masters in Tennessee. Broaden your horizons to give yourself new taste sensations, especially if you’re trying to break out of a cooking rut.
